How long does it take to memorise the Quran?
Honestly, it depends on age, memory and how many lessons a week you take. A child taking four or five lessons a week from around age seven often completes Juz Amma within a year and the full Mushaf over several years. Anyone promising you a fixed timetable before meeting your child is guessing.
Does my child need to read Arabic before starting?
Yes, at least basically. Memorising from listening alone locks in pronunciation errors that take far longer to fix than they would have taken to prevent. If your child isn’t reading yet, we start them on Noorani Qaida or Noor Al-Bayaan and move to Hifz when they are ready.
What if my child forgets what they memorised?
Forgetting is not failure; it is the normal behaviour of memory, and the revision cycle exists precisely because of it. If a portion has genuinely slipped, your teacher rebuilds it rather than pushing ahead and leaving a hole.
Can we just do Juz Amma?
Yes, and for many families that is the right goal. Juz Amma is what your child will use in every prayer for the rest of their life. Tell us that is the target and your teacher will plan for it.
