For the child who can read
Children and adults who can read Arabic script and want to read it correctly. No prior Tajweed knowledge is assumed. If you cannot yet read the letters, start with Noorani Qaida or Noor Al-Bayaan — Tajweed on top of shaky reading is building on sand.
Here the order is reversed. One rule at a time, introduced and then used immediately in the passage you are reading that day, with your teacher correcting you until it becomes automatic. Nothing is learned as theory before it is used.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the beginners' course take?
Most students cover the full set of beginner rules in three to six months at two or three lessons a week, though applying them fluently continues well beyond that.
Do I need to know Arabic to learn Tajweed?
No. Tajweed is about how the letters are pronounced, not what the words mean. You need to be able to read the script; you do not need to understand it. Many of our Tajweed students take the Arabic Language course separately for that.
Can my child learn Tajweed at seven?
Yes, and it is a good age to start, because habits have not set yet. At that age we teach the rules through imitation and correction rather than terminology.
What comes after this course?
Advanced Tajweed, which covers the finer distinctions, the rules of stopping and starting, and the control expected of a strong reciter.
